The Wooden Wonder of the Dhungri Forest
uilt in 1553, the Hadimba Devi Temple is an ancient cave temple dedicated to Hidimbi Devi, a character from the Indian epic Mahabharata. The temple is surrounded by a gorgeous cedar forest, locally known as Dhungri Van Vihar.
What makes the temple uniquely striking is its four-tiered pagoda roof and intricate wooden carvings depicting mythological figures and animals. The temple does not house an idol; instead, a massive rock depicting the footprint of the goddess is worshipped.
The forest area surrounding the temple is incredibly peaceful, perfect for a quiet morning walk. You can also dress up in traditional Himachali attire for a memorable photograph, or take a short yak ride offered by locals outside the temple complex.
