N

amed after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the Atal Tunnel is an engineering masterpiece. Stretching 9.02 kilometers, it is the longest highway tunnel above 10,000 feet in the world, connecting Manali to the Lahaul-Spiti valley.

Driving through this ultra-modern tunnel is an experience in itself, cutting down the travel time to Lahaul significantly. As you exit the tunnel at the North Portal in Sissu, you are greeted by a dramatically different landscape of rugged mountains and serene waterfalls.

"A journey through the mountain's heart to emerge into a breathtaking new world."

Visit the beautiful Sissu waterfall and the Chandra river just past the tunnel. The transition from the lush greenery of the Kullu Valley to the stark, barren beauty of Lahaul within just ten minutes of driving is a stark and awe-inspiring contrast.
